Mudskippers are odd looking fish. They're bug-eyed with a pair of pectoral fins that serve as legs out of water. On their back they have a beautiful fin that they raise when warning others about territory.

Periophthalmus barbarus
SYN : Euchosistopus koelreuteri, Gobiomarus koelreuteri, Gobius barbarus, Periophthalmus dipus, P. koelreuteri, P. modestus
PD : The head is large and rectangular in shape.

The Mudskipper is also brackish, requiring a specific gravity of around 1.008 or 1.009. This is not an amphibian, it is in fact a fish. Because of it's land going ventures it might be wise to use a secure lid or screen to make sure it doesn't escape.

and a few Mudskippers (Periophthalmus sp.) on the island of Buguma, south of Port Harcourt. If you get off your boat on to mudskipper "flats", you quickly sink about 2 feet into the clay; it's an original way to lose shoes.

Of these amphibious fish some such as the mudskipper can live and move about on land for up to several days. Also, certain species of fish maintain elevated body temperatures to varying degrees.

I recently purchased a couple of mudskippers (periophthalmus papilio) which are doing well in the land/water environment. Very interesting fish to watch, as they spend more time on land than water.

I thought that the depth might be a factor because my tank was tall, so I moved it into my new mudskipper setup with a bank so the creatures can hop out of the water.

I have a butterfly fish along with a mudskipper and 2 minnows and they get along just fine. The mudskipper sits on the rock we have and hides under while the minnows stay in the middle and the butterfly fish stays on the top.
