Neon Tetras are a great addition to the community aquarium and are fascinating to watch as they dart around the aquarium as a group. Once they have adapted to their environment they will be quite hardy fish.

The Neon Tetra is a very docile fish. They are peaceful and do not exhibit aggression to other fish. They are a schooling fish and should always be kept in groups. Solitary neon tetras will become very timid and withdrawn.

Sex differences: Males show dark purple/black bodies with a neon blue/white streak from the middle of the torso through the caudal. Males also develop large yellow lapets on the tips of the ventral fins and may obtain long filaments.

There is no effective treatment for Neon Tetra Disease. Antibiotics are ineffective against the spores, though they may appear to effect some temporary relief by minimising secondary infection.

Adapts to a range of conditions, but soft, slightly tannin-stained water will bring out the best colours.
Despite the common name, this is not a colour form or variant of the common Neon tetra, but a completely separate species.

Aquarium Setup:
Neon Tetras will thrive in a densely planted tank with lots of places to hide. The tank bottom should have a dark substrate and lighting should be subdued. Floating plants are often used to help shade aquariums.

But nothing can compare to standing in front of is grow out tanks which contain thousands of baby perculas, tomatoes and Atlantic neon gobies.

Do not keep with smaller fish such as Neon Tetras or slow moving high-backed fish such as Angelfish and Discus. They must never be kept with Goldfish. Has been seen to cope well in semi-aggressive set-ups, even with African Mbuna Cichlids! ...

Two very popular Tetras which need soft, acidic water are the Neon Tetra - Paracheirodon innesi and the Cardinal Tetra - Cheirodon axelrodi. These are quite attractive red and blue fish.

Some popular types of fish, for example angel fish, neon tetras and fancy guppies, can severely restrict your choices of tankmates, since they are no match for more aggressive or even more active companions.

Many fish with impressive coloration come that way naturally, such as Neon, Black Neon, Cardinal, and Glolite Tetras, any of the Alunocara "Peacock" Cichlids, Guppies, Discus, many Rainbowfish, many Killis, and Goldfish and Koi.

Besides its water requirements the Neon has the added drawback that almost all of them are bred in the Far East in huge numbers with no regard to quality. Further, the raising ponds for the young fish are filled with medicines.

I have been keeping the neon light of the aquarium off, and I have performed a 50% water change, but the water is as green as ever. I can hardly see the fish. I am considering using a green water treatment.

They have been marketed under a number of common names including Electric Blue Ram and Neon Blue Rams. Some people have r reported having difficulty in finding females and speculate this is intentional to make breeding more difficult.

The dominant output is from South-East Asia, shared between Hong Kong, the Philippines and Singapore, accounting for over three-quarters of species. The neon tetra.

Being light in colour, this fish looks striking if kept with darker coloured fish. Small South American Characins, such as black neon or black phantom tetras. Large shoals of small mid-water fish will encourage this fish into view.

Thin, torpedo shaped tetra fish like neon tetras are not suitable for staring out your aquarium. Here are some of the hardier tetras: Serpae tetra, bleeding heart tetra, red eye tetra, white skirt tetra, black skirt tetra, lemon tetra.

While many hobbyists insist on natural gravel, there are gravels available in a rainbow of colors, including some neon hues.

When choosing an aquarium to house angels, pick one that is tall rather than wide, to provide deeper water for the fish. While angels do well with other fish, do not include tiny fish such as neon tetras and guppies in the community tank.

Also, H. bleheri tend to associate with Neon (Paracheirodon simulans) and Cardinal tetras (Paracheirodon axelrodi). Because they are very timid, do not keep H. bleheri with agressive, territorial fish.
