Neon Tetra Disease General Description
As the disease progresses, affected muscle tissue begins to turn white, generally starting within the color band and areas along the spine. As additional muscle tissue is affected, the pale coloration expands.

There is no effective treatment for Neon Tetra Disease. Antibiotics are ineffective against the spores, though they may appear to effect some temporary relief by minimising secondary infection.

Neon Tetra Disease: Fish infected with Neon Tetra Disease will show signs of becoming pale in color (white patches beneath their skin). The fish will not school with the others and become listless.

This is a primary infection route for fish TB and for Neon Tetra Disease, and also important for a number of intestinal parasites.

Unfortunately, neon tetras are occasionally afflicted by the so-called "Neon Tetra Disease" (NTD) or Pleistophora which is usually fatal to the fish, and currently without a cure. This sporozoan disease is caused by Pleistophora hyphessobryconis.

These parasites live in the muscles and other tissues of the fish. White areas can appear on the skin, leading to the loss of colour. Neon tetra disease can affect other tetras like Glowlights and danios.

conditions in the aquarium, frequent water changes should be made. These fish are shoalers, the schools swimming in the middle to lower strata. They are peaceful towards other fish of similar size. Neons are susceptible to the Neon tetra disease.

Neon Tetra Disease Causative Agent: Plistophora hyphressobryconis is a microsporidian parasite capable of infecting all tetras, angelfish, barbs, and rasboras.
