The two nominal species currently recognized can be distinguished by colour pattern.
The undescribed species can easily be distinguished from both nominal species, even at a small size, as it possesses four rows of rectangular spots along the side, rather than two rows of square spots, as in the other two.
If we follow Ferraris, Rineloricaria contains 45 nominal species. This makes it the largest genus of the subfamily loricariinae in terms of number of species.
cupido and is sympatric with the other nominal species of the genus, B. wavrini. Both of these species are quite unimpressive as juveniles, but adults possess wonderful rose and coppery colors and blue lines (males) or spots (females) on their faces.
