Odessa barb (Puntius padamya)
This barb was once rare but is now becoming more readily available. In the shop it may look drab and boring but once it settles in it is spectacularly coloured. Its needs are similar to that of most barbs.

Odessa barbs are egg scatterers. They will lay their eggs on anything in the aquarium. Parents must be separated from the eggs or they will eat them. Fry will eat tiny live foods, especially "green water". Juveniles grow rapidly.

Odessa Barb
A beautiful barb that is quite colorful. Not very common at the local fish store.
Rainbow Shark ...

Love that fish, have 8 in a 29g heavily planted tank together with odessa barbs and a red-fin shark.
Very active, always on the move, swim mostly at top-middle, enjoy swimming against the current from the pump.

I have 7 Melanotaenia australis in a 400 litre with pearl danios, odessa barbs, a male Geophagus brasiliensis (to be re-homed) and a weather loach (soon adding more). The tank temp is generally 22-24°C. Mine have bred at 24°C and pH 7.2.

I know that they prefer to be in spots that are full of vegetation or hiding spaces and that they prefer to hunt for their food at night. I currently keep mine with Celebes rainbows, green tiger barbs, odessa barbs and various fancy plecos.
