Oscars grow very rapidly, as much as 3 cm per month if well fed, sometimes more. They tend to slow down at 18-20 cm, but will eventually reach 30 cm. Stories of 40 cm, although rare, are not impossible.
Oscars are omnivorous. They will eat just about anything they can fit into their mouth. Cichlid pellets (high in Vitamin C, protein, and vegetable matter), prawn, bloodworms, & earthworms are just some of what they can be fed.
