There is a small plant from SE USA and Cuba with whorls of 3-4 >pointed ovate leaves which looks a bit like a star from a distance. >This is identified as Hemianthus micranthemoides in Baensch Atlas vol.

 


I've been asked by a friend of mine to help her "renovate" her rather sorry looking 90 gallon freshwater tank.

The petiole [leaf stem] is triangular, with ovate to oval blades growing 7-30 cm in length and 4-20 cm in width.

The leaves are ovate with smooth margins unlike the other two species. This plant can also tolerate less light than the other species but still seems to be a bit more difficult to grow. It does best planted in bunches.

The keyhole cichlid, Cleithracara maronii, is a cichlid native to tropical South America, the only species in the genus Cleithracara. It is a small ovate-bodied fish. It is a omnivore, but primarily feeds on invertebrates.
