The Peacock Bass, which is also known as the Peacock Cichlid, the Butterfly Peacock Bass and the Eye Spot Cichlid, is best known as a game fish. Peacock Bass have long bodies and deeply notched dorsal fins.

The most commonly available Peacock Bass (there are numerous species, including Cichla temensis) is a yellowish-green color, with three black bars on the side and often with red-orange pectoral, caudal,and anal fins.

Various colors of Oscars, Flowerhorns, Jack Dempseys, Green Terrors, Managuense, Red Devils, Peacock Bass, and others are common there. They recently had a pair of Managuense spawn in a 20g-30g tank and they have a few hundred tiny fry now.

Cattle ranchers whose livestock need the water for drinking sometimes stock the pools with peacock bass to kill the piranha. People swim in water that have plenty of piranha in them all the time, and are not frequently attacked.
