The Peacock Eel is a sensitive animal. It is not recommended for beginning aquarists. Peacock Eels should be kept in water with a pH level of 6.7, and with a temperature of 78 to 86 degrees fahrenheit.

I have a peacock eel; about 13 cm long and either very active or very still. When he's still he hides his body in a thick outcropping of broadleaf plants and just pokes his head out - his eyes follow everything though.

The spiny eel, also called the tire track Eel or the zigzag eel, is similar to the peacock (pictured on the right) and gets along well with their own species or the peacock eel.
