Selecting a Pair: If you wish to breed P. pulcher, finding an established nesting pair makes the relatively simple process. However, you can select your own pair, as they are relatively easy to sex.

Kribensis Cichlid Pelvicachromis pulcher
Grows to 3.5"
General: This fish has many desirable characteristics. It is very peaceful and will mix in many community tanks.

Pelvicachromis pulcher
SYN: Pelmatochromis kribensis, P. pulcher
PD: An elongated cichlid with a long dorsal fin.   The male has elongated tips on the dorsal, caudal, and anal fins. The females are stockier with less elongated fins.

One of the most commonly kept dwarf cichlids from Africa is Pelvicachromis pulcher, the Kribensis cichlid. A male Kribensis can reach a size of 10 centimeters (4 inches), while the females stay even smaller.

The Pelvicachromis pulcher is maybe one of the most easy to breed cichlids as well. If you have an adult couple they will reproduce, in a community tank, a special species tank or in a pond, some people like to breed them in their pond during summer.

Scientific Name:Pelvicachromis Pulcher
Location:Tropical Africa
Size:3.5 - 4"
Diet: Variety of flakes, brine shrimp, small worms, cichlid pellets.
Temperament:Peaceful (compared to most African cichlids), aggressive during spawning.

However, in the aquarium trade Pelvicachromis pulcher is the fish usually sold under the name "kribensis". Ideally the fish should be referred to by its scientific name, thus eliminating the issue of the common name.

In a nutshell, I have two of the best Kribensis parents you could ask for (Pelvicachromis pulcher). A beautiful, highly colorful female at 3.5" long, and a wonderful 4.5" long male make up the soul cichlid residents of their own 40 gallon tank.

Kribs or ``Kribensis'' - Pelvicachromis pulcher are a widely seen West African Cichlid that will do well with the larger schooling fish and should be kept in a twenty gallon or larger tank. Male Kribs grow to be 4" long and females stay a bit smaller.
