Peppered Cory - Corydoras paleatus (Jenyns, 1842)
Hardy is the first word that comes to mind when thinking of this fish. In fact you really have to go some to seriously harm these genteel catfish.
Peppered Cory Cat
The Peppered Cory Cat comes from the tributaries of larger river systems in South America, and is a peaceful bottom dwelling scavenger. The Peppered Cory Cat has black and dark green spots, with a white underside.

Another popular cory, these are slightly smaller and have mottled markings that are good camouflage.

Corydoras paleatus
SYN: Callichthys paleatus, Corydoras marmoratus
PD: The body is stocky and deep, with an arched back. Two rows of bony plates make up each side of the fish.
Peppered Cory: The hobby still imports most Corydoras species from the wild, but the peppered cory was one of the first tank-bred cory catfish. Peppered cories sold in shops are now almost always farm-raised.

Corydoras paleatus (Peppered Cory) has been available to the aquarist for a long time. It was one of the first corydoras species to spawn in the aquarium.
Here is one of a peppered Cory. Today some compact digicams already have settings for manual control of aperture, focus, and shutter, and may even have provision for off-camera flash.
I've had 2 farlowella's for about 5 months now in a 20g with guppies and a pair of peppered corys. They like to hide on the intake for the filter and in the corners or on a plastic plant and seem to be doing fine.
Unlike most Corydora Catfish which are tropical fish, the little Peppered Cory prefers much cooler temperatures, which makes it ideal for a sub-tropical community set up.
Comment : We recently bought two peppered cory's and one of them looks like it has dropsy always looking as though its dead but then swimming away again. Is it on its last legs?
