Petiole: The stalk of a leaf.
Pfiesteria: A toxic microorganism capable of killing fish and subsequently feeding off their flesh. Usually found in brackish waters.

 


The petiole [leaf stem] is triangular, with ovate to oval blades growing 7-30 cm in length and 4-20 cm in width.

It has a shorter petiole, and curlier leaves. The other is definitely Bolbitis, but the jury is still out whther it is heudelotii or not. Claus Christensen is of the oppinnion that it is a different species.

The kids told us to help looking for bubble nest of the Betta between the palm's petioles. They said that the nest of the Betta will be quite small and compact, if we found big nest then it belonged to the Trichogaster trichopterus.

The leaves, almost round, are born in pairs at the knots and they are directly linked to them without the petiole (the "cable" that ties the blade - the leaf, properly - to the stem).

Petiole: The petiole is the small stalk attaching the leaf blade to the stem.
Stem Axis: The stem axis Is known as the "Meristem" which is just a fancy word for a point at which growth occurs.

Echinodorus palaefolius (family Alismataceae) is a very tall delicate plant with very tall thin petioles and spear shaped leaf blades.

Broad, deep green, fluted leaves, this is a stockier variety of Anubias. The petioles are a brownish-red, as are new leaves, and it flowers frequently under water.
