Phosphorous

Phosphorous
This is definitely something that should be as low as possible, especially for people with reef tanks. Phosphorous is a nutrient, but not one for fish.

Phosphorous: An important trace element in the marine tank. Phosphorous is an essential element in the formation of new DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and it forms the high-energy bonds of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), ...

Phosphorous
Non metallic element. An essential element for living organisms, found in the tissues (especially bones and teeth) and cells. Present in fish feeds as a result of the inclusion of fish and other animal meals.

Phosphorous: An important trace element in the marine tank. Phosphorous is an element that helps composed ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which is a building block for genetic material, specifically DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid).

I think that we both agree that minimizing inorganic nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorous are the ones which hobbyists can readily test for and are most concerned about) is important.

The study investigated the seasonal changes in iron (Fe), sulfur (S) and phosphorous (P) levels in the first 4 cm (~1.5 inches) of sediment in a coastal embayment with residence time of 100 days.

Do not add phosphorous to the mixture if you are adding any type of iron fertlizer! This is because they will react.

Second, step up water changes to lower the phosphorous levels in the tank. If your water supply normally contains phosphates, you may want to invest in some phosphorous-removing filter media. Third, kill the lights for several weeks.

Other elements include: Manganese, Zinc, Magnesium, Copper, Boron, Potassium, Sulfur, Phosphorous, Calcium, Nitrogen. No mean list there - You may thinking, "what am I meant to do?

Polyester padding and activated carbon are universally available, and common options include zeolite for ammonia removal, resins for phosphorous removal, ceramic for biofiltration surface area, ...

Frequently these compounds contain nitrogen or phosphorous and if these compounds are left in your water, they can be broken down to form nitrates or phosphates.

The coralline algae (pink, purple or red microalgae with calcareous or calcium-containing cell walls) absorb nitrogen and phosphorous just as live plants do in a freshwater aquarium. In addition, live rock is full of holes, tunnels and crevices.

The fish waste may well supply enough of the major elements (nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium), but rapidly growing plants may begin to run out of trace elements, especially iron.

I would caution us all to remember when feeding these foods that the phosphorous contained in these foods can have an ill effect on your water quality and may cause an algae bloom if the levels of phosphorous become too high.

These, in their turn, absorb nitrogenous and phosphorous substances, carry out photosynthesis, and produce organic substances that enhance both their own growth and that of their host.

Nitrogen* - (usually in the form of ammonia or nitrate) necessary for protein synthesis
Phosphorous* - promotes flower development
Sulfur* - used in protein synthesis ...

Organophosphorous antiparasitic remedies may be used too.
PREVENTION Avoid obviously infected fish and discourage fish-eating birds from visiting garden ponds to prevent the life cycle being completed.

Phosphorous (P) - Mobile, macro-nutrient. Older leaves Chlorosis between veins. Starting at leaf tips and edges. Premature leaf fall-off. Young leaves Plant stops growing and becomes darker green or stays green.
