A typical plec shape is shown, patternation consists of primarily irregular largish brown spots on a yellowish backgroung giving a honeycombed like appearance, additional pattern features common to glyptoperichthys may be visible on close inspection.
Sailfin Plec (Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps): This catfish is very similar to other cats - especially the Hypostomus plecostomus, but is certainly not, and is in the Loricariid family.

They coexist with Jack Dempsey pair, giant danios, large bala sharks, gold algae eaters, bristle nose plec, and a leporinus fasciatus. These two pictus cats are usually on the move (towards evening) or resting together in a rock cave.
The poor inhabitants encluded a MASSIVE plec (far too big for the tank), two corries and the last surviving - far to big- silver dollar.
I bought a new plec about a month ago, it was only in the tank 1 hour until my pangasius had eaten him =(...However, that will show me not to buy anymore fish as small as him haha..) He likes to be hidden and has his own territory within the tank.
Work great with Fire Mouths, Jack Dempseys, Plec's and other large fish. I've found that single specimens are less aggressive towards tank mates than if they are paired off. Provide lots of caves and plants for territory establishment.
When I first started to become intersted in catfish, the sailfin plec or gibby (which still doesn't seem to be a widespread term) was still only available as 2-3" wild caught specimens at around £10 upwards.

since birth as have the other 2 even though the male parent is yellow and the female parent is black and yellow when do you think any colour will come into the fish if at all. These are the only fish in my tank except for 1 bristle nosed plec, ...
My favourite display was found in a very deep tank that was home to a shoal of large Tinfoil Barbs, a Clown Characin so old that its colour pattern has long since faded to grey and a Snow King Plec.
Getting rid of it
The only good fish to get rid of it is the SAE (siamese algae eater). Get a group of them and it should be gone shortly. The common plec has been known to also eat it (very rarely though).

If your nitrates drop too low, below 5pm, then you may find plant growth is limited and you need to add nitrate to you tank, although what I have done in the past is added a messy fish like a peppermint plec to increase nitrates.
