PD : The coloration of the Elephant-nose Cichlid is virtually identical to that of the Polystigma. Themain difference between the two being that the Elephant-nose Cichlid possesses large lips, that when opened makethe mouth look like a small trunk.
This fish is has often been confused with the Polystigma Cichlid, Cyrtocara polystigma, which is very similar, having the large blotches. However the Polystigma Cichlid also has many small dots all over its body which are missing in the Livingstoni.
Large (10" and up) Community Cichlids: includes "Oscars" and Peacock Bass from the Americas, Mozambiques and other Tilapia species from Africa, and many of the Haplochromis (venustus, polystigma, livingstoni, etc...) from East Africa.
On our way back we did some more snorkeling over sand and saw more Polystigmas, Oxyrhynchus and Lethrinops. We ended the day with fish and rice for dinner. After another long hot day in the African sun you become quite exhausted, so we retired early.
They are peaceful fish and do better if placed with other large peaceful fish (eg. Nimbochromis livingstoniis & polystigmas, Placidochromis electras, Protomelas similis & taeniolatus, and Cytrocara mooriis).
