Veggies should occasionally be offered. It is said that they will help with an overpopulation of snails though the author has never seen this in person. Common water conditions are fine, but make sure it's clean.
There has been no noticable decline in the guppy population. He's been in the tank for months now. I'm sure I wouldn't want him with the young fry, but from two to three month old guppies have been okay with this peaceful fish.
