Pufferfish are alluring to everyone, with their comical faces, propeller like fins, and inquisitive nature. The Figure 8 Puffer is one of two Puffers commonly sold for freshwater aquariums.
Pufferfish (Tetraodon steindachneri): This is actually 'Tetradon steindachneri', of the Tetradonae family. A fantastic looking fish, although i have never had one personally.
Pufferfish are slower moving fish with beak-like mouths and two fused front teeth. Their jaws are extremely strong, which helps them feed on their favorite food, crustaceans.
Pufferfish make excellent reef aquarium fish. That is unless you plan to keep small invertebrates or clams. A clam like the one pictured here can be a quick meal for many pufferfish.
