Pumpkinseed sunfish, Lepomis gibbosus
Unfortunately, the longeared sunfish is an endangered species over much of its former range.
Many beautiful American sunfish, such as the pumpkinseed ( Lepomis gibosus ) are prized, hardy, aquarium subjects in Europe and are periodically available in the U.S. aquarium trade.
