Tiger Barb - Puntius tetrazona ...

Puntius tetrazona has a gold body with four vertical black bars, the first of which passes through the eye. The top of the snout and the pelvic fins are red, and the other fins have faint red markings on their edges.

I originally started with 3 of these guys and one of them just picked on the other 2 all the time.

There are many varieties as well as hybrids with other barbs. Good community schooling fish. They are fin nippers.

Synonyms:Puntius tetrazona, Barbus sumatranus(Not an official synonym, but the fish has been known under this name for many years).
First European import:Unclear, an import in the Netherlands in 1935 is reported.

Tiger barb (Puntius tetrazona)
One of the most easily recognized aquarium fish, the scientific name tetrazona refers to the four vertical stripes.
