Pygmy Chain Sword
Pygmy Chain Sword
By Clint Norwood
Scientific Name: Echinodorus tenellus ...

Pygmy Chain Swords stay smaller than most swords and send out runners often. It enjoys a lot of light and does good when a little liquid fertilizer is added to the water.

Pygmy Chain Swords (Echinodorus tenellus): This plant makes a neat "lawn" in the natives tank. It can be obtained at just about any pet shop. It likes full to partially-obscured standard lighting. Darters like to perch on the "lawn".

Pygmy chain swords (Echinodorus tenellus) are a popular choice for foreground ``lawns'' because they don't grow as tall as other plants (2-4 inches typical). The good thing about chain swords is that they reproduce rapidly via runners.

Pygmy Chain Sword Echinodorus tenellus I usually have this plant growing in a number of tanks that are set up for long term use.

tenellus, quadricostatus (pygmy chain sword): leaves up to 6", 72-86F. Fast reproduction by runners; can create a lawn on large enough tank. Small plants; nice foreground display.

If you select low growing, propagation by runner type plants such as pygmy chain sword or dwarf sag, or small crypts such as wendtii, you will get increase in plants and usually the excess can be traded in to your local fish store (LFS) for credit.
