The Ornate Rainbow originates within the streams, pools and slackwaters of Australia. There are two strains of this species, red and yellow. The strain that we are offering is the red strain, and is farm raised.

The rainbowfish found in river systems east of the Great Dividing Range of Queensland Australia are schooling and do not do well or show off their best colors if kept singly.
This Rainbowfish has an odd shape compared to other Rainbowfish. The body will not be slender and thin, it will be oval in shape and slightly more plump. The base color will be red. Males will generally have more arched backs.

Throughout the world there are concerned aquarists in the ranks of specialty organizations involved with livebearers, killifishes, cichlids, rainbowfishes, etc.
One inch of fish per gallon of water is a good rule of thumb for most small community fish (like most Tetras, Bettas, Rainbowfish, and Platies).
There are various method of inducing triploidy in Rainbow trout and Atlantic Salmon and some of these are detailed in the table. Triploidy has also been used successfully with flatfish, common carp, channel catfish and tilapia (Oreochromis aureus).
