Like most other rainbowfishes. A very easy to keep fish. This fish hails from a lake that is heavy in vegitation, and they are mostly found near the outlet of the lake into the river, where the vegitation is even more dense.

Throughout the world there are concerned aquarists in the ranks of specialty organizations involved with livebearers, killifishes, cichlids, rainbowfishes, etc.

Madagascar rainbowfish are not in the Melanotaeniidae (Rainbowfishes) or **Pseudomugilidae (Blue-eyes) families and are thus not classified as true Rainbowfish. They belong in the Bedotiidae (Madagascar rainbowfishes) family.

In earlier days of the aquarium hobby, rainbowfishes were known as sunfish. When exactly this group was called rainbowfish nobody really knows.

The Poeciliidae, familiar ovoviviparous "livebearers" are the subject of Chapter 15. The group includes the sailfin mollies and mosquitofishes. It also includes the siversides, a marine group related to the dwarf rainbowfishes of Australia.
