There are two species of fish that are commonly known as the Red Terror; C. urophathalmus and C. festae. C. festae is considered the true Red Terror. The difference between the species can be told by the size and positioning of the caudal occelus.

Red Terrors, like their name suggests, are a highly aggressive cichlid commonly found in the rivers of Central America.

Red Terrors are usually ranked among the top 5 most aggressive cichlids in the world!
Also, the true Red Terror is often mistaken for the Mayan cichlid...Cichlasoma uropthalmus.

He would lock jaws and have tug-o-war matches with my Red Terror. This fish would eat just about anything (cichlid pellets, brine shrimp, blood worms, cichlid sticks, and of course feeder fish).

All things being equal, zebra danios and Nandopsis urophthalmus (the orange tiger, often sold erroneously as a "red terror") just don't win shows, even when they are the best a fish could ever hope to be for its species.
