Red Zebra Cichlid
The Red Zebra African Cichlid, Pseudotropheus zebra, is known by a plethora of other names, often based on color. The Red Zebra, although appearing more of a yellow color, is often a brilliant red in the wild.
Red Zebra Cichlids are native to Africa's Lake Malawi. They have become popular in captivity, although their coloration has been modified. Now, orange colorations have appeared in males in addition to the wild-type blue coloration.

They are sold under a variety of names, including "blue zebra", "red zebra" (pictured), and "assorted" african cichlids. These fish are on the small side for cichlids, but they are definitely as aggressive as many of the larger species.
What surprises me is that even the Red Zebra is afraid of her. Well, I am under the impression that Red Zebras are rather aggressive cichlids. Moreover, this one is bigger than Nila. I don't get it! Is my Red Zebra more docile because it is a female?
She dropped us off at her restaurant, called the 'Red Zebra' near Senga Bay, where we waited for her while she attended a chief's funeral.
Rocks and other hiding areas can be provided, however they traditionally stay away from the rocks due to fear of mbunas, like the Cobalt Blue Zebra, the Red Zebra or the Blue Johanni. Neverthess, Blue Ahlis can hold their own against mbunas.
There is no evidence that these genetically engineered zebra danio fish pose any more threat to the environment than their unmodified counterparts which have long been widely sold in the United States.
A few different varieties of zebra cichlids are out there. Pictured is the red zebra and males can get very territorial. Another African cichlid that is not recommended for a community type tank setup.
