The rosy barb (Puntius conchonius) is a subtropical freshwater fish belonging to the minnow family (Cyprinidae). It originates in Bengal, India and other parts of Southeast Asia.

PD: The Rosy Barb has no barbels and has slight lateral compression. The back is copper to green-gold.

Rosy Barbs have an overall Rose or light red color. The top of the body will usually be green. They are a shiny fish with iridescent sheen. The fins are generally very long and elegant. The head is small.

Rosy Barbs, like other Barbs, are little nippers. Their favorite pastime is to nip at other fish. However, if kept in schools of five or more, and in active tanks, the nipping shouldn't be too much of a problem.

This is a hardy fish indeed. Now that it comes in various colour formats, it has become quite a favourite in aquariums. It is a good middle of the tank show off.

Rosy Barbs - Barbus conchonius - Perhaps the most peaceful of the mid-sized (3"-4") barbs towards unrelated fish. Males become bright red, while females remain olive or gold: both sexes have a prominent black spot near the base of the tail.

Prefer a well-planted tank of at least 30 gallons with soft, slightly acidic water. Rocks and driftwood can be added to the aquarium, but leave plenty of space for swimming. The Rosy Barb is a schooling fish and enjoys being in numbers.
