Sessile

Aquarium SerrateSetae

Sessile Paguritta sp. crab in Porites sp.
This photograph was taken of a sessile animal living in my 115-gallon aquarium.

Sessile: Sessile means the organism is attached to the substrate at the bottom of the ocean and therefore cannot move around. Pelagic refers to living in the water of the ocean above the bottom. Pelagic organisms have the ability to move around.

Sessile: An organism that is not free to move about. It is usually permanently attached to a substrate of some kind. For example, a rock.

Sessile - An organism that is unable to move about, it will be permanently attached to something like a rock.
Silicone Sealant - An adhesive used to seal the pieces of glass in aquariums.
Skimmer - A shortened version of protein skimmer.

Tall forms with sessile, thin, ribbon or thread like leaves.
Acorus calamus (A,R)
Acorus gramineus (A,J,R,W,Y)
Acorus gramineus var. gramineus (W)
Acorus gramineus var. gramineus fol. variegatus (W)
Acorus gramineus var. pusillus (An,B1,D,W,Y) ...

Live rock, as its name implies, is coral skeletons that have become inhabited by bacteria; micro and macroalgae; worms; sessile invertebrates, like corals, anemones, sponges, crustaceans and other marine organisms.

But to be a successful reefkeeper one must also develop a reasonable understanding of compatibility as it applies to sessile invertebrates.

Sea Apples are sessile species which are usually more rounded, with the mouth pointed up, and generally will be 3 to 6 inches in diameter. They will extend large, highly branched tentacles to trap floating plankton.

Growth - Water currents in aquariums bring corals, clams, and sessile invertebrates the food, oxygen, nutrients and movement necessary to stimulate growth.

The Flame Angelfish is prone to nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles. If the Flame Angelfish is to be added to a peaceful community, it should be the last fish introduced.

One of the most fundamental points regarding Anthozoan biology is their sessile lifestyle. Unlike fish and other mobile critters, most Anthozoans can not move from a particular space if they do not like it.

In these aquariums, the plants in freshwater tanks, and the photosynthetic corals, anemones, and other sessile invertebrates in reef tanks, compete with algae for light and nutrients.

In this tank, and other Berlin system tanks like it, it will take on numerous roles; it will be our primary biological filtration media, our décor, a structural support for a plethora of sessile invertebrates and a complex network of burrows and ...

Filter feeders rely on proper water circulation to get all their nutrients. They include sessile invertebrates and some crustaceans. When filter feeding, you may need to turn off protein skimmers, UV sterilizers and other filtration devices.

Also, be very cautious if you are buying saltwater sessile inverts, not everyone in the fish room knows how to handle these correctly.

EATS SESSILE INVERTEBRATES - feeds on or kills anemones, live corals, sponges, feather dusters or live rocks.
q. EATS MOTILE INVERTEBRATES - feeds on or kills shrimp, crabs or starfish.
