Shimmy

Shimmy - A stress-related symptom in which a fish remains in one position while wagging it's body from side to side. Common among Livebearers, especially Mollies, when water conditions are not within the parameters for the fish's needs.

 


Look for any signs of disease, such as ich, rubbing against rocks, shimmying, fungus. Does the store offer a guarantee on livestock? Ask the store personnel to feed the fish. The fish should eat eagerly.

SYMPTOMS Fishes (mostly livebearers and particularly Mollies) swim with curious shimmying action of body. Later, if untreated, fish becomes unable to swim and sit on the gravel listlessly shimmying.
TREATMENT Remove fish. Increase temp.

The male will swim around the female spreading his fins and shimmying in place.
