Siamese Algae Eaters just barely make it onto this list. Aside from being hard to find and having lots of look-a-likes passed off as SAEs, they have a few major benefits, but along with these come major drawbacks.

Siamese algae eaters appreciate the company of their own species and may wane and become overly timid if kept in solitary conditions.

Pet stores seem to get personalaties mixed up between CAE`s (Chinese Algae Eaters) and the algae eating cousin the SAE (Siamese Algae Eaters).

Hair algae eaters for freshwater include the Siamese Algae Eater (a hard-to-find favorite for enthusiasts of planted "natural" aquariums), Malaysian Shrimp, Japanese Shrimp, Ghost Shrimp, American Flag Fish, Mollies, and Platies.

This fish is perceived to be a false Siamese Algae Eater and although they do eat some type of hair algae, they do not eat them as industriously as the true Siamese Algae Eaters (Crossocheilus siamensis) do.

I see you already have a Siamese algae eater -- want to consider adding a couple more? Or maybe a couple of Otos. If the algae (ye, I tend to imagine this is algae) doesn't come off from the leaves easily, cut off and throw away the affected leaves.

Probably the best is the Siamese Algae Eater. Mollies are good for eating fuzz, hair, and beard algae, but they require a lot of space, at least 20 gallons, as well as a fair amount of salt.

Getting rid of it
The only good fish to get rid of it is the SAE (siamese algae eater). Get a group of them and it should be gone shortly. The common plec has been known to also eat it (very rarely though).

Therefore it is advisable not to mix it with species such as the Red-Finned Shark, or other Epalzeorhynchos species, Siamese Algae Eaters (C. siamensis), etc. The aggressive nature can become more apparent with age.
