The Siamese Fighting Fish originated in Thailand and Indonesia, where it lives in swamps and rice paddies.

This explains why they are also referred to as Siamese Fighting Fish. In Thailand, they have been used specifically for this purpose, with fights lasting as long as six hours.

Betta splenden or Siamese fighting fish, in natural it lives in paddy field, small river and other clean water ponds. In Indonesia, this fish known as "ikan cupang" or "ikan laga" which means fighting fish.

Anabantids (Bettas and Gouramis) Bettas are also known as Siamese Fighting Fish (as in the fish that will attack its own mirror image).

The most commonly seen Anabantid is probably the Betta or Siamese Fighting Fish (which is generally said to be Betta splendens but is probably a crossbreed).

Although the "Siamese Fighting Fish" is often seen in flower vases this is not ideal for the best fish for small spaces. If you have are thinking about putting a Betta with other fish this is possible, just not with other Betta's.

"Betta splendens" (most common types of bettas found in Walmart, any pet store) are really Siamese Fighting Fish.
They'll likely chase and kill the female if she sticks around and even attack their own reflection in a mirror.

Freshwater Bettas (Siamese Fighting Fish) are never compatible with each other, and are rarely compatible with other long-finned fish or very fast-moving fish.

I have kept Betta splendens (Siamese fighting fish) for quite some time. I don't consider myself an expert, but I feel I am very experienced in their care and well-being.

However, since I got them 3 guppies have vanished without a trace and I bought a siamese fighting fish who was lovely.

Betta fishes are from the freshwater family Belontiidae, and the most common species often found in the aquarium is Betta splendens (also referred to as Siamese Fighting Fish).

Then there are those that are relatively peaceful most of the time but take territoriality to the extreme when spawning, or as with the male Siamese fighting fish Betta splendens, when confronted with another male of their own kind.

A filter isn't needed either, since doing a water change would take 30 seconds with a cup and could be done twice a week. Snails could keep algae to a minimum, a few shrimp or one or two small fish (tetras or barbs or even a Siamese Fighting Fish) ...
