The Siamese Algae Eater is also known as the Siamese Flying Fox. Ignoring other species, this fish tends to stay by himself.
It prefers a planted aquarium with many broad-leaved plants on which it can rest on.

One of the most common is the Plecostomus, but others include the Siamese Flying Fox and Octocinclus. Some people will add snails to their tanks to keep it clean. However, snails can become a problem just as quickly as algae can.

Unfortunately, most wholesalers don't sell fish to stores by their scientific name and the common names that are used sometimes get pretty silly (like "siamese flying fox").

What's worse is that often the SAE is called the Siamese Flying Fox. That does not mean a Flying Fox is the same as a SAE. Both the "False siamensis", and Flying Fox have a gold to white stripe above the black lateral stripe the SAE is famous for.

Typical choices for fish could be smaller tetras or rasboras and some angelfish. It would also be suggested in this type of set-up to include some algae controlling species of fish, such as Siamese Flying Fox.
