For this reason they are also known as Silver Sharks. Their silver coloration is distinct because their fins are lined in black. Some Bala Sharks will have white spots on them.

Bala/Silver Shark (Balantiocheilus melanopterus): The bala shark is a very popular fish, but they can be a problem, simply because they can become very large. Its a peaceful fish, which can be kept with smaller tankmates.

This species is frequently available in stores as juvenile fish with no warning as to the size it will attain. It is seen under the common name Silver Shark in the UK, and sometimes Tricolour Shark and Bala or Tricolour sharkminnow.

Right beside Sean's armchair is a large tank with his collection of large fish. These include oscars, leporinus, clown loaches, hoplo cats, convicts, and silver sharks.

Comment : my sharks are pretty active, the albino in mine is quite teritorial he chases the other male and female around and also all my other fish but my plecs, angels and my silver shark. but they do add a good sense of natural order.
