Slime Coat - The continuously produced mucous envelope which covers the scales of a fish and makes it feel 'slippery.

 


USE STRESS COAT AS ADDED PROTECTION Every time fish are netted, their protective slime coating is removed. This natural slime coating helps prevent the loss of electrolytes (salts) from the gills and skin.

We have treated the water with a chemical to inactivate the chlorine or chloramines added by our local water system (and hopefully that chemical does not add lots of "extras" such as Aloe vera gel and other "slime coat enhancers" or what have you - ...

Feed once or twice a day, more so if the fish is in with other relatively unsuitable fish to avoid it grazing on slime coats.

I'll have to think some more about how to argue in favor of improving slime coats, but I'm so full of cr*p that I bet I could do it. I'm not ready yet to wimp out on the "improved water quality, better fish health" answer.

Mishandling, rough netting or injury may all disrupt your fishes slime coat. The slime coat of your fish protects it from the ich parasite.

The slime coating of the fish are constantly being replenished, and the discarded proteins can make up a large percentage of liquefied waste.

I placed it in a 35 liter tank and added an anti microbial agent along with a slime coat regenerator hoping for the best. However, the wounds were really very deep.
