Snakeheads (Channa sp.) are very powerful predators that want to be alone, and require a huge tank to attempt to mix with others. They are sometimes blamed for actually breaking the glass of an aquarium.

Feeder snakeheads is one of the most nutritious feeder fish you can feed. Snakehead meat is not only low in fat and nutritious, it is also believed to have special healing properties.

Snakeheads were fairly common in Thailand around 1990, when I visited that country. So I assume this affliction is fairly recent. They are desired food fish in their natural habitat and their recent absence probably has affected the diets of many.

Red Snakeheads are ferocious predators demanding a constant supply of live foods. They will frequently kill more than they can eat and are gluttonous feeders.

Dino, (my polypterus) gets along quite well with my red lined snakeheads and tiger oscar. unfortunately, he never gets a shot at any feeders I put into the tank, as the snakeheads will eat a dozen or more feeders and the oscar will eat the rest.

Parachanna Africana (Niger Snakehead) can tolerate low oxygen conditions in water because they are air breathers from an early age. When prevented from surface access, adult snakeheads will die due to lack of oxygen.
