If you want the mop to float, tie a piece of cork on top of the mop. Your floating spawning mop is now complete.

2.Put the male in with the female after a day of her becoming acclimated. Acclimate her slowly and completely, make sure she's not shocked by the temp or ph in the breeding tank.
Unlike danios, rasboras and tetras, killies do not produce hundreds of eggs in one group spawning, requiring far more work -- picking eggs out of the spawning mops, incubation of the eggs, etc.
Breeding/Reproduction: A breeding tank should be set up with a sponge filer and either many fine leaved plants or a spawning mop. A pair of healthy adult rainbowfish should be introduced.
A five gallon tank was planted with temple plant since it grows nicely in brackish water, Java moss, gravel for digging a nest, coconut shells and a killie spawning mop to be used as a refuge for the female.
To avoid this problem use a spawning mop or related substrate as a spawning site. Remove this or the parents after spawning is complete. The eggs will hatch after a period of 10-20 days, depending on the species.
Techniques borrowed from the killifish breeders with yarn spawning mops work fine. Or if you don't like dangling mops of yarn under their cork floats bobbing in your fishtanks, you can use what my LFS disparagingly calls my "fence posts".
The best thing to use is spawning mops, which will enable you to remove the eggs from the tank, withoit handling them. Place the eggs in the same water as is present in the spawning tank in a small breeding tank.
They are easily bred, using live plants or spawning mops. Remove the mops after spawning, as the parents have been known to eat their eggs. Place in a low current tank, as the fry cannot handle much current of any kind.
Cabomba is a good choice, Java Moss is excellent, but if live plants of the right kind (fine-leaved foliage) are not available, nylon spawning mops will serve the purpose just as well.
Spawning cherry barbs is easy except that the parents tend to eat their eggs, so plants or artificial spawning mops must be very thick in the breeding tank.
Spawn over fine plants. Java Moss or spawning mops can be provided. Spawning usually takes place in the morning. The eggs take about 7 days to hatch, and are best removed to a separate rearing tank.

A single female produced 150 1.5mm diameter light amber eggs. These were placed on the tank sides and in the spawning mops. Spawning mops should be provided as the fish appeared to prefer these to Java Moss.
Place a spawning mop or dense floating plants in the tank, and keep the lighting subdued. The breeding tank need not be set up with substrate or any other decorations. This will allow for ease of cleaning as the fry develop.
They prefer to lay their eggs within a spawning mop or java moss. They are very easy to breed, and the eggs will hatch in about a month's time. Once hatched, place the fry in a small holding tank and feed the newborn fish live baby brine shrimp.
Native to Central Africa: Angola, Gabon, Cameroon and Congo. The Cape Lopez lyretail is a breeding plant spawner which hang their eggs from plants. A spawning mop or fine-leaved plants are used in the tank.
Tetras have adhesive eggs, so fine leaved plants or spawning mops should be used to catch the eggs. Colombians will spawn multiple times over a period of days. The parents should be removed after spawning. The fry are very small.
Floating fake plants are used quite often, but another thing I like to use is a weighted spawning mop made from a dark green or dark blue colored yarn.
Eggs should then be separated into another tank, as the parents will likely eat any of their young that they happen upon. Dense plants such as Cabomba or Elodea or a spawning mop are used to catch the eggs.
Java moss, Fontinalis and Vesicularia dubyana are suggested but not mandatory. The use of spawning mop made of woollen thread can also be used. 1 cm glass beads or a spawning grate will help at the bottom to protect eggs from being eaten by adults.
