Spectrum advertises measurement repeatability is ±5%. I compared indices (of a green plant) taken over a range of light intensities. The individual data sets were indeed in good agreement.
Light spectrum
The commonly used unit of measure to measure the spectrum or "temperature" of light is called degrees Kelvin (K). Kelvin is a scale that has been developed to describe the color of light.

Spectrum
This describes the wavelengths of light that make up the light source. Visible light (see Glossary) is a continuous band of colors ranging from violet to red (380 - 700 nm).
Full spectrum or Daylight bulbs
Full spectrum or Daylight bulbs try to closely imitate the look of natural sunlight. They provide a wide spectrum of Red, Yellow, Blue and Green light.
Broad-Spectrum Antibiotics: There are two types of bacteria that cause illnesses in Bettas. Some antibiotics, such as Marycyn I or Marycyn II, each target only one type of bacteria.

The will accept anything, but to keep their colors strong, feed New Life Spectrum, Cyclops, Spirulina, and any high quality herbivorous cichlid flake or small pellet. Mysis and brine shrimp occasionally is okay.
Rusty Cichlids usually do well in brighter full spectrum lighting. Enclosure temperatures are usually kept between 73 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit (23 to 28 degrees Celsius). Water should have a pH level between 7.6 and 8.6.

It is wise not only to choose the proper wattage for the bulbs, but lights of the proper spectrum as well. The degree Kelvin (K) reading gives a measure of this. The higher the degree K, the bluer the light becomes.
For best results with plants we recommend high intensity full spectrum white lighting. We like to use Aquastars, Arcadia 's or Power Glo's.
Full-spectrum fluorescent bulbs are common fixtures - they enhance the colors of the fish and decor, and they don't give off too much heat.
In a planted fresh water aquarium you need to have some fluorescent lights that cover the full spectrum of light. The full spectrum tubes will also normalize the visible colour in your aquarium so it is nice to look at and not some strange colour.
Actinic light comes from the blue end of the color spectrum, so it appears blue and is usually combined it with a full spectrum (white) lamp for clear viewing.
Now cool white and a lot of cheap aquarium tubes are heavy in the yellow/green spectrum as that is one of the best we can see. However plants are green and that means the majority of the green light is reflected and the others absorbed.
