The Peacock Eel, also known as the "Spot Finned Spiny Eel," is a unique and exotic addition to any aquarium. Their long bodies and graceful movements make them desired by experienced aquarists. The Peacock Eel is a great community fish.

Spiny Eels
Spiny Eels (family Mastacembelidae) are aggressive fish, some of which grow quite large (over 3'). Some do stay small (less than 4" for one species), but all are likely to have internal parasites.

These Lake Tanganyika spiny eels were displayed with the Malawi cichlids, but the eels require shrimps for food, which are too rich for the herbivorous Malawis.

Tire track eel is one of the most popular spiny eel. One look at it and it is easy to perceive how it got its name. Aside from the fact that this eel has a unique color pattern, it is readily available in the aquarium trade.
