Keeping Stingrays
Stingrays.. IMO one of the most satisfying fish to keep.

Stingrays generally shed the end of their pursue, Tropical Fish impaling a would-be predator using the spiked conclusion to safeguard by themselves.

Stingrays have grown in popularity just recently, and young specimens may cost upwards of 100 dollars. A lively bottom-dweller, it does best in a species tank with open areas at the bottom for swimming and resting.

FRESHWATER STINGRAYS
A Few words on origin, evolution, and original biotopes: Freshwater stingrays, as odd as it may seem, are much closer - from an evolutional point of view - to Pacific rays than to their counterparts living in the Atlantic.

There the fish shared the space with two other stingrays. By the fall, the stingray was 45 cm in diameter. The moulted colors of the stingray were remarkably bright (as with all my fish kept in ponds during the summer).

All Fresh Water stingrays are extremely delicate, making them difficult to raise.

Non lethal defensive toxins are associated with spines in many fish including rabbitfishes (Siganidae), catfishes (such as Plotosidae) and stingrays.

Aquarium setup: All freshwater stingrays including the mossaic stingray are cartilaginous fish, they lack gas bladders, and need to be in constant movement to be able to breathe.

*Sole species may pose a physical or public health threat, such as piranhas and freshwater stingrays.

If you sell sensitive marine species such as sharks, stingrays, certain species of butterfly fish, ribbon eels, or dragonets (and the list goes on) to the wrong aquarium, be prepared to eat your profit when the customer walks in with a dead fish.

Exceptions come in the form of scaless catfish, clown loaches, stingrays and mormyrids for whom most methylene blue, malachite green, and copper based meds are a death sentance.

Other livebearing species kept by aquarists, though far less commonly than the Poeciliidae are the splitfins, family Goodeidae; the halfbeaks, family Hemirhamphidae; and the four-eyed fish Anableps anableps, family Anablepidae. Freshwater stingrays ...
