BREEDS, STRAINS, AND VARIETIES
In the natural world, local breeds and strains exist, often differentiated by color. In addition, breeders try to evolve new colors and shapes by crossing.

Strain: (Type of fish to be discussed)
A. Origin
1. What part of the world does the species come from
2. From what source did you get your first breeding pair
B. Identifying Characteristics
1. Size of the male and female
2.

Strain: A variety of a certain species. The freshwater guppy, for example, has only one species name but several strains.

Strain
A group of organisms of the same species, that either come form the same area (such as the same catchment area of a river) or are the result of a particular breeding program.

Wild strains offer a beauty of their own and if you ever have a chance to acquire wild fish I encourage you to do so.

Most strains of angelfish available in the fishkeeping hobby are the result of many decades of selective breeding.

Most strains of Ich should be eradicated by this heat treatment, but bear in mind that there is at least one strain in Florida that is known to be heat-tolerant [3].

STEP 1: Realize the responsibility involved.
A tropical fish tank is just like having a dog or a cat when it comes to the amount of effort on your part. In order to have a successful fish tank you will have to work at it.

Albino Strain
Detailed Description:
This fish is very popular and quite easy to recognize. The base color will be blue-gray in color with red or orange fins.

Various strains of the Blackskirt Tetra have also been developed:
A long-finned variety, the Blackskirt Hifin Tetra, was first developed in Europe. It is also very popular and is readily available.

parental strains (P0 or F0 generation )-- originally crossed organisms.

While each strain of white spot is slightly different in general at 86F (30C) they begin to lose the ability to reproduce. Unfortunately the ability for water to hold oxygen is also drastically reduced.

Several new strains of Cryptocaryon irritans have been identified in Taiwan and other locations (Burgess & Mathews, 1995. Diggles and Adlard,1997).

8) Keep a related strain. Two related strains (preferably the same color) can be occasionally crossed. Otherwise, you could lose your strain from too much inbreeding.

The Koi Angel is a strain of angelfish that has been bred for it's mottled black and white coloration. Some may have gold markings on the head. The young specimens may have a red hue beneath the eyes that fades with age.

Adults can tolerate brief exposures to temperatures as extreme as -18 to 40 degrees C(0-104 degrees F) Optimal temperature for cyst hatching and adult grow out is 25-30 degrees C (77-86 degrees F), but there are differences between strains, ...

The common or "original strain" has a dark olive to black body color with a yellow and/or red band that marks the mid-section of the fish. This band widens at the upper part and lower part of the body.

Mechanical filtration, also known as physical or particulate filtration, is provided by pushing the water through some form of filter media that acts as a strainer.

About a month ago I bought a female convict fish to start of a breeding project ,a month later I bought another convict but this time a albino strain I don't know if he,s a male or female because he's, to small to be sexed , ...

In a more recent study f, Lepomis marginatus gets more individual attention as the researches look at a behavior that has resulted in a new strain in other species in the Lepomis genus.

As they become the dominant species in the aquarium through regular dosing, other, often less desirable, bacterial strains are forced out and lose the competion for desirable colonization.

Saprolegnia strains are basically omnipresent in freshwater environments and can spring up in fish kept in less than adequete water conditions, often making a beeline for ammonia damaged gill tissue and dead slime layers on fish.

The strain which I culture and know as D. pulex (from the F.B.A.'s 1966 Key to British Cladocera), tends to be larger than that described by many texts (such as that by the British Columbian Resources Inventory Committee), ...

Meanwhile, there are other fish hobbyist that do some researching and locate a specific color and/or fin strain that they wish to breed. These strains may cost up to, if not more than $85 for a trio (one male and two females).

The other issue is hybridization with the domesticated strain of B. splendens. In captivity, this fish can be freely cross bred with B. splendens and give viable fry.

From small tanks pour off fry of the same strain into a large tank with a water level of about 3.93" (10CM) and raise this level as the young fish grow. One basic rule: Never keep several strains together in the same tank.

Cycle incorporates 12 strains of bacteria at extremely high concentrations to provide aquariums with unique advantages.

Some authors believe there are multiple strains of the parasite, some of which might require higher levels of copper, but it's also possible that the copper itself is somehow being bound up in the tank, ...

They can vary in pattern greatly, and many hybrids are now been selectively bred to create specific strains, such as the Tiger Endler.

The next step is the bacteria strain of Nitrobacter. Nitrobacter takes even more time to adsorb nitrite, and in this stage nitrite is prominent and it is another dangerous time for a fish, even a hardy one.

There are two common color variations, the original orange strain, and a golden strain. A slightly elongated, oval-shaped fish. The body is yellow to bright orange in color with several rows of small red-orange spots that mark the body.

The wild strain of the Kissing Gourami is green and the bred strain is silvery-peach. The Kissing Gourami has thick lips that can be extended or pursed, as if kissing.

Additional:Different type localities exist, and it's important to keep the strains pure(do not crossbreed!).

Hobbyists have developed several strains of this fish. The gold rosy barb has a brassy color, rather than silver. The neon rosy barb displays an even more intense red against a golden background.

First, you may have a highly inbred strain of livebearers, whatever they are (I am presuming platies or swordtails). There are ocasional females that die after birth, but it is not common.

Simply stated, mechanical filtration is the straining of solid particles from the aquarium water. Mechanical filtration does not directly remove dissolved ammonia.

Certain algae strains can deplete oxygen levels, and clog up filters, amongst other problems. If your tank is in this type of environment I might suggest moving it, or darkening the room.

This media mechanically or physically strains solids from water passing through it, which is vital for the efficiency of your biological media. Mechanical filtration removes unsightly particles including fish excrement, sludge, uneaten food, or dust.

Larvacea: A group of planktonic tunicates that secrete a gelatinous house, used to strain unsuitable particles (large particles are rejected).

Origin and locale/variety: This albino form is an aquarium developed strain. The original Haplochromis sp. Ruby Green originates in the Lake Victoria area, East Africa.
Size: Adults are usually 3.0 to 4.0 inches in aquarium environment.

The image visible here is a gold severum owned by Kateyoup. It is a morph selectively bred from the original green strain. Other strains are available including the popular red severum.

Waiting that long to change the water strains the filtration systems as well as forces the fish to live in dirty water for longer than they should.

Trading frags not only is a great way to increase your variety, but it helps maintain genetic strains of corals (frags are also known as 'clones') that might otherwise die out in a single tank struck by the calamity mentioned in 1 above.

Mechanical filters remove unwanted materials from the water by straining and /or the use of absorbent materials. It helps maintaining water clarity doing so.

Xiphophorus helleri, though many aquarium varieties are cultivated strains and may be hybrids of different Xiphophorus species.

Works together with other beneficial strains to eliminate harmful toxins. Super concentrated formula. The ideal mix of beneficial bacteria to make the aquarium water purer and the environment healthy. For fresh and saltwater aquarium use only.

Also available is the closest thing that you may find to the wild Guppy - Poecilia reticulata: "feeder Guppies'' which are not bred for color. The fancy strains tend to be fragile while common Guppies often carry diseases.

All prepared foods, youngsters can be grown very quickly on bloodworm or more cheaply on commercial fish meal. Will eat constantly, but care should be taken not to pander to this tendency as the strain on filtration becomes immense.

Turns out I left the strainer/plug I had just bought at Target in the sink and when the sink started backing up with water it sank and plugged the drain.

Angelfish Varieties
While most mutations are lost in nature because they are different, the aquarist can provide added protection for the creature and possibly breed it selectively to establish the new strain.

red dots strongly pre dominate, while a deep reddish hue extends into all of the fins, even with the female, which in the ordinary form has them clear. The light spot on the gill plate is green to gold. The eyes are usually yellow. There is a strain ...

Tetrodotoxin has even been isolated from certain strains of algae, along with more marine life such as some snails, crabs and even a type of flatworm.

After spawning, the parents should be removed from the tank. The eggs should hatch after about two days, and the fry should be fed prepared fry food, strained boiled egg yolks, baby brine, or microworm ...
