The subgenus Tigrigobius is a very diverse group of generally coral and/or rock reef fishes.

A representative of the predatory subgenus Nandopsis, the jaguar cichlid is the most commonly available of the giant guapotes.

Aphyosemion splendopleure, which belongs to the subgenus Chromaphyosemion, is a relatively easy, yet beautiful killifish. This species is quite variable - colors and other characteristics depend quite a bit on the locale they came from.

Supplement their diet with mosquito larvae, brine shrimp, cyclops, and or daphnia. Astatotilapiia is a subgenus of Haplochromis and A. latifasciata has been assigned to this subgenus pending further investigation by scientists.

Rendahl as Nemacheilus cruciatus and subsequently transferred to the genus Yunnanilus which originally was a subgenus of Nemacheilus. The former genus and subfamily name derive from the Greek nema [filament] and cheilos [lip].
