Some sucker-mouth catfish will readily eat brown algae, most notably plecostomus and otocinclus. If the problem is due to high silicates in the water, and the brown algae persists, a special silicate absorbing resin can be used in the filter.
Think of sucker-mouth catfishes and the South American loricariids come immediately to mind. Think again of the African catfish family Mochokidae and the ever-popular Synodontis is the first thing one thinks of.
It is hard to starve a fish (other than Loricariids, sucker-mouth catfish, or other specialized feeders, and even that is not short term). Drop back to every other day or even every third day feeding. This will reduce the waste load.
