Suture

Aquarium SupraorbitalSwim Bladder

Suture: The spiral trace of each whorl's juncture with its adjacent whorl.

canaliculata has deep "sutures," or grooves, between the swirls of the shell. This snail is often brown to yellow, and can grow to a size of 3 inches. P.

Teeth are fused in a powerful jaw with a median suture apparent at the midline, appearing as 4 fused teeth (hence tetraodontidae, meaning four teeth). This is of particular use in crushing the shells of mollusks and crustaceans.

The most obvious characteristic of the shell are the square shoulders (flat at the top of the whorls) and almost 90° sutures. The shell opening (aperture) is large and oval, the umbilicus is large and deep.
