Care: Synodontis petricola should be kept in larger tanks, with hard alkaline water. It is well suited to be kept combined with african cichlids, and livebearers, although smaller fish are often eaten.

Synodontis petricola
Origin and locale/variety: Lake Tanganyika, East Africa. Geographical variants seem to occur within the Lake, but these have not been well documented to date.

Synodontis petricola
SYN : S. petricolor
PD : An elongated catfish whose body color is copper-yellow to gray and belly is white. Its color may change to lighter shades with age. Black spots cover the bodyand the dorsal fin.

For a long time, Synodontis lucipinnis was known to be different from the similiar Synodontis petricola primarily as it was smaller in adulthood - hence the "working title" Synodontis sp. cf. petricola `dwarf`.

Synodontis Petricola Dwarf: This is the smallest and the most peaceful of the Rift lake Synodontis species. And they tolerate the herbivorous diet of Tropheus better than any other Syno. They do best in groups of 6 to 8.
