The name of the T-Barb is derived from the sideways "T" created by the positioning of the second band and the horizontal line. The fins are colorless.

The T-barb is a very fast swimmer and eater. When you put food in the tank, they go on a frantic feeding frenzy. So, It is not advisable to put them in the tank with slow eaters. They will grow rather quickly. From: indigoposse

The spanner barb (Puntius lateristriga), or t-barb is a tropical freshwater fish belonging to the Cyprininae sub-family of the Cyprinidae family. It originates in inland waters in Asia, and is found from the Malay Peninsula to Borneo.
Checker Barbs - Capoeta oligolepis and Spanner or T-Barbs - Barbodes lateristriga are large, peaceful barbs (Spanner Barbs up to 7" long). Unless you have a very large aquarium avoid Tinfoil Barbs - Barbodes schwanefeldi.
I have them in a 40 liter tank with a glo-lite tetra, t-barb, and a ruby barb. As all of my barbs, they are just pigs.
