First there is going to be another digression - did anybody ever accuse me of digressing before? We need to think about flow rates and turnovers per hour. Your 20-gallon tank does not hold 20 gallons of water.

One of the attractions for keeping rays in the aquarium is their behavior and intelligence. A healthy ray can learn very quickly how to recognize and hand feed from its owner.
Tank Size: In the case of aquatic snails, tank size isn't quite as important as filtration capabilities.

Get the as large a tank as possible that you can fit in your location. A larger tank holds more water than a smaller tank and the extra water volume acts as a buffer against fluctuations in the water perimeter.

The minimum tank size for a colony of Tropheus moorii is a 55-75 gallons / 210-280 litres. Even in a tank this size you should not keep less than 15 fish. I prefer larger tanks of 125 gallons / 475 litres or larger for Tropheus personally.

Tank size has a great effect on how susceptible the water is to rapid temperature change. The larger the tank, the more water it holds (a simple concept!). The more water, the greater its ability to hold heat and maintain temperature.
Tank size is important in a way. Not so much the volume, as the footprint. Loaches like a large footprint to swim back and forth in. The longer the tank, the happier the loaches. They are also more active at night under blue moon lighting.

Breeding tank size = 450 x 200 x 150mm. Water Temp. =76 deg F. Ph =7.2 GH = 6 spawning. Followed the typical ''T'' formation two days after a water change which reduced the temp. by 6deg F.
Along with tank size issues discussed above, lighting is a major factor in determining what corals & invertebrate can be successfully kept .
The minimum tank size recommended is 33 gallons, and this is only if you plan on housing one individual alone, without any tank mates. The recommended tank size for housing Oscar fish is 100 gallons, of course the bigger the better.

Minimum measurements of 1 B"xl 8"xl 8" are recommended, but my tank size does not permit.

If you are using the air pump only to operate an under gravel filter, and your tank is a standard size, then the tank size ratings on an air pump are probably relevant.
Water quality, reproductive behavior, tank size and number of inhabitants will influence the behavior and health of any aquarium community.
One note, when adding new fish to an already established aquarium. Be very careful.
Provide a well-planted aquarium with lots of caves and hiding places. Tank size is not much of a concern with such a small fish. Strong filtration and regular water changes are beneficial.
