Terminalia catappa is a species of tropical tree that grows in Asia. It is widely believed that placing the dried leaves of this tree in your aquarium (especially with Betta fish) causes the animals better health and therefore longer life.

In Thailand, we use the dry Indian Oak Leaf (Terminalia catappa), if not available dry banana leaf will also do the trick. To be save, I normally boil the leaf to extract the water from it. I do not put the leaf in the tank directly.

This is by far the most slender of all Trachelyopterus species. Another feature that gives its identity away is the terminal mouth, whereas other Trachelyopterus species have a slightly superior mouth (see also General notes).

Propagation is simple--pinch off the terminal bud and plant it in the substrate; this will also create a bushier main plant as side-shoots will grow. Flowers only appear when the plant is grown emersed.
