Thorichthys meeki is anything but meek. Like most cichlids, they are to be kept as a single species tank, or at least with fish of similar size and temperament. This species is usually found in the lower and middle sections of slow-moving rivers.

Thorichthys meeki (formerly Cichlasoma) comes from Mexico, specifically from the Yucatan peninsula. It lives in many different types of locales, from rivers and streams to lakes, ponds and estuaries. In the aquarium, T. meeki prefers a pH of 7.5-8.

My firemouth is only a baby. It is only about an inch long. It is already picking on the Chinese algae eater I put in with it. It eats live goldfish for a snack.

Thorichthys meeki
Firemouth cichlids (Thorichthys meeki) are native to Central America. They occur in rivers of the Yucatán peninsula, Mexico, south through Belize and into northern Guatemala.

When gill flaring, the cheek stripe shrinks to a dark patch on the outer edge of the operula, like that seen on Thorichthys meeki (Firemouth Cichlid). This gives the the illusion of being a giant head with a large eye.

What the hell should I do with my Thorichthys meeki pair? I always trade their fry for food at my lfs (and at a good price) but, where … where … OK, OK, OK !!! ...
