Three-spot Gouramis are often kept in large schools of predominantly females, and only one male should be kept in the tank. Sexing can be done by observing the dorsal fin of the fish; the males being more pointed.

Three-Spot Gouramies are very hardy and pretty fish which can be readily found in several different color patterns, ranging from light to dark blue, yellow, pink and brown. Dispite the name, many of these have no spots at all.

The Three-spot Gourami comes in several color hybrids sold as Blue, Gold, Platinum, Snakeskin and Opaline Gouramis. These are all the same species.

Care and feeding: Since the Opaline Gouramis, like all varieties of the Three-spot Gourami, are omnivores, these fish will generally eat all kinds of live, fresh, and flake foods. A quality flake or pellet food makes a good base to the diet.

Another very commonly seen Anabantid is the Blue or Three-Spot Gourami - Trichogaster trichopterus. Gold, Silver, and Cosby Gouramies are also widely available and are simply artificial color varieties of the Blue Gourami.

The Blue Gourami is also known as the Three-Spot Gourami. The Blue Gourami has only two spots, one in the center of the body, and a second at the beginning of the tail. The eye is actually the third "spot" that is referred to in the name.
