Origin: Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia; Malakka, in slowly flowing and standing waters. The fish has been introduced in Sri lanka as a food fish.
Etymology: pectoralis; refers to the large pectoral fins.

PD: An elongated, moderately compressed fish with a small dorsal fin. The anal fin nearly the length of the body and the pelvic fins are long and thread-like.
