Autotrophic is an organism that produces complex organic compounds from simple molecules and an external source of energy, such as light or chemical reactions of inorganic compounds.

Trophic Level: In a food chain, a level containing organisms of identical feeding habits with respect to the chain (e.g., herbivores).
Tropical: Being within the latitudinal zone bounded by the two tropics (23º 27' north and south latitude).

eutrophic
Having waters rich in phosphates, nitrates, and organic nutrients that promote a proliferation of plant life, especially algae. Used of a lake, pond, or stream.

· Trophic = specialization, adaptation, radiation

The heterotrophic bacterial response during a mesoscale iron enrichment experiment (IronEx II) in the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean. Cochlan, William P.

I would expect that 'resembles' implies the presence of representatives of as many of the original trophic niches as is reasonably possible, and I think that Dr. Adey has something like this in mind as well.

After 24 hours in your system, heterotrophic bacteria multiply by the millions to try and decompose the solids. Unfortunately, they cannot decompose the solids as fast as the waste is produced in your pond.

This is the lithotrophic bacteria that nature has created to reduce nitrite after it has been produced by nitrosomonas bacteria. nitrobacter is an aerobic bacteria which requires an adequate flow of oxygen and nitrite to prosper.

Some of you may have wondered why many tropical areas are oligotrophic (nutrient-poor) by nature, since temperate parts of the world seem to be heavily inundated with an abundance of nutrients.

Traditional biological aquarium filtration for the reef aquarium cultures both autotrophic and chemoautotrophic bacteria in devices such as bio chambers, bio towers, trickle filters, overflow boxes, denitrifiers, and algae turf filters.

So, what of the catastrophic collapse? Well this may be overstating things slightly, but there are very real environmental threats to coral reefs worldwide - trawling destroys huge expanses of coral, ...

Tidy Tank contains billions of heterotrophic bacteria. These Bacillus species bacteria rapidly consume carbohydrates, proteins, starches, fats and cellulose that build up in aquariums as the result of feeding, fish waste, ...

The degree to which the female supports the developing larvae in many species is lecithotrophic, ...

They prefer turbid, eutrophic lakes, often found in warm water depleted of oxygen. Their native substrate is one of mud-bottoms, but can also be found in other ponds and springs with sandy bottoms covered in plant debris.

While unexpected problems are an unfortunate reality of keeping live animals, there are a few simple steps you can take to prevent catastrophic crashes in your aquarium as well as their deadly consequences.

A final note is to encourage safe disposal of bodies, and dispose of tankwater that may have been contaminated with bleach mixed in it for several hours before letting it go down the drain. This disease can have catastrophic consequences for species ...

Submersible heating rods of various lengths, together with programmable thermostats, make it easy to control tank heating. Be absolutely sure that the settings are correct because a faulty or poorly calibrated heater can bring about a catastrophic ...

I have also experienced and heard about these types of catastrophic failures on tanks, but I have never had a failure like this on a tank with an under gravel filter, though I have seen failures like this with other filter systems.

You drill for oil 1,500 meters below the surface of the ocean, you open up oil holes across the surface of your supposedly-beloved landscape, sooner or later there will be a spill, and sometimes that spill will be catastrophic.

Diseases introduced to your tank with newly purchase fish may infect your other fish with catastrophic results. Buying a low cost fish is also not much of a bargain if it dies less than a month later.
