Turnover - Or Turnover rate. The rate at which the total volume of the tank water is processed through the Filter system. Three or four times per hour is usually the minimum for a freshwater tank.

Furthermore, the staff turnover rates in the various branches of the big chains mandate that you will get poorer services from less knowledgeable staff.

to at least 82°F and ensure the tank is well aerated and heavily filtered (A tank turnover rate of 6 times an hour is not excessive). Ensure there are many spawning caves and crevices available for the fish to select.

One warning on over-generalizing, as we tend to do on the forums - different format filters do not necessarily directly compare in capacity or in needed turnover rates.

No matter which type of filter you are using, it should have a water turnover rate of two or three times each hour.

Fresh water aquariums generally require a minimum water turnover rate of approximately four times an hour. Marine aquariums usually do best with water turnover rates of 7 to 10 times per hour.

It's cheap and consumes only very little energy, but their turnover rate limits their usability to small tanks in fish rooms. It has an extra advantage that the water get aerated at the same time though.

These are easy to maintain and have more media than internal versions along with a slower turnover rate which is ideal for the planted or discus aquarium.

As far as the filters, aim for a ten tank volume per hour turnover rate based on the flow ratings of the filters. Don't worry, discus can take up to a moderate current in their tanks with no problems.

High turnover rate is recommended, but the powerhead should not be directed into the cave itself. Fish should be conditioned prior to spawning on a protien rich diet.

I like canister filters because there is no visible equipment in the tank (I hate that!), multiple filtration media types can be used inside, have a high turnover rate (gallons per hour) and are ‘all-in-on', combining mechanical, chemical, ...

after discussing this with Sears and Conlin and thinking about it for a few months I came to the conclusion that the algae become P limited because the TURNOVER rate of P in algae is much higher than in macrophytes.
